Within the practice of Los Carpinteros the act of drawing can be seen as a metaphor for their artistic enterprise, which places value on craftsmanship and communication among the artists. Very often these drawings are the only documents that record the concept for projects that aren't realizable. "Carretera de tornillos (Street of Screws)" and "Tres relojes (Three Clocks)" transform objects by multiplying them. By removing the objects from their functional context, the drawings bring different kinds of allegorical readings into play. In "Acumulación de materiales-ladrillos II (Accumulation of Materials-Bricks II)", the bricks are not used to build but instead form a disordered pile, which simultaneously suggests the destruction of a once-completed building and the construction of a new one. "Bloque infestado (Infested Block)" pictures a flesh-colored brick with some areas of black, indicating organic shapes within a geometric construction.
