Artists: Claudia Comte, Abhishek Hazra, Alaa Mansour, Omar Mismar, Courtney Desiree Morris, Tuan Andrew Nguyen, Diana Policarpo, Asunción Molinos Gordo, and Tahe
Originating as a means to mitigate cultural loss by sustaining multigenerational artists and cultural practitioners, st_age is an open invitation to closely experience their realities by presenting new commissions produced for the digital realm. Hinging on gender, environmental, and indigenous issues, these newly produced artworks are complimented with contextual material ranging from podcasts to conversations between curator and artist, to custom research clusters.
st_age searches for a new language that allows us to reflect on how we could inhabit the world in a different way; one that is conscious and responsible not only towards humans but also transformative and propositive towards other species. The aim is to build more-than-human worlds and generate challenging social and political ecosystems, through a language that can place feminist counterstrategies and subaltern readings at its center, through listening, discussing, and caring for others.
The second season of st_age, which was launched in May 2021, will be presenting newly commissioned artworks by Claudia Comte, Abhishek Hazra, Alaa Mansour, Omar Mismar, Courtney Desiree Morris, Tuan Andrew Nguyen, Diana Policarpo, Asunción Molinos Gordo, Naufus Ramírez Figueroa, and Tahe. Throughout Season 02, we will approach Healing from a transformative and spiritual perspective, which st_age connects to feminism and female deities (Healing through the Feminine Divine) and to the potential of Healing Land through sensing nature, learning from ancestral practices, reclaiming indigenous land rights, and applying a decolonial, non-violent attitude towards the challenging times we are living. All these proposals will help us look into the regeneration of the ecosystems, both social and natural (Healing the Ocean), we inhabit. st_age is a space to delve deeply into these topics through selected projects, webinars, public conversations, and open talks. Season 02 consolidates and expands st_age’s partnership with like-minded organizations and institutions, including Ashkal Alwan, KHOJ International Artists’ Association, Kunsthall Trondheim, TBA21–Academy, and Alligator Head Foundation.
st_age is an integral part of TBA21’s programming built in collaboration with a strong network of international institutions sharing our conviction in art as an agent of change.
