Ruth Kaaserer’s work Tough Cookies documents the realities of everyday life for three similar, but ultimately unique, female boxers and their challenges both inside and outside of the ring. Struggling within this man’s world, they all live on the edge of society. With two of them continuing their training and the other having quit the sport, the triad of women allow the audience to fully permeate their lives, with Kaaserer documenting the results. The filmmaker and artist is present for the screening, and compliments the evening with a lecture held together with her editor Joana Noelle Scrinzi.
JOANA NOELLE SCRINZI (born 1981 in Salzburg) studied MultiMediaArt at FH Salzburg and has been film editor in Vienna since 2007. She has worked with film directors such as Händl Klaus, Sebastian Meise, Anna Katharina Wohlgenannt, Nikolaus Geyrhalter and Antonin Svoboda. Tough Cookies was Scrinzi and Ruth Kaaserer’s first collaborative project.

For over a decade, Ruth Kaaserer has been presenting works at numerous festivals across Europe. Originally from Tirol, Kaaserer studied at Vienna’s Academy of Fine Arts and works in the realms of photography and documentary film such as balance (2001) or Community Garden (2010) – an impressive oeuvre, that employs qualities of both fine art and cinema.
