Corporeality and Sexuality
Exhibitions
TBA21 is thrilled to announce its participation in the exhibition, Corporeality and Sexuality, opening at Votivkirche on April 25, 2014. The exhibition, presented by KunstGlaube and curator David Rastas, aims to promote a dialogue between contemporary art and theology, making space for the critical consideration of human sexuality, the body, desire and relationships.
For this exhibition, TBA21 presents from its collection Doug Aitken's No History (2005): a large-scale automated mirror sculpture, wherein viewers are invited to reflect—literally and figuratively—on their surroundings and their own physical presence. Walking through the sculpture, the viewer is bombarded with thousands of mirrors on multiple planes, all undulating at various speeds and angles, igniting a chaotic visual relationship between viewer, sculpture and environment. As one tries to find themselves in the midst of the confusion, they are instead met with reflections of other visitors and of the magnificent church architecture, as their own reflections appear and disappear in a kaleidoscope of light and motion.
