Proximity Program Remedies: Directions to the Old Ways

We present the  winter Mediation Program that accompanies the exhibition Remedios: Directions to the Old Ways, a collaboration between TBA21 and C3A Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía, Córdoba. Derived from the multiple perspectives encompassed by the exhibition, the activities in the program point towards the recovery of diverse ancestral traditions and knowledge, and propose transformative approaches to regeneration and reparation. Guided tours, workshops, conversations, and discussion groups are directed to assorted audiences and aim at creating spaces of encounter, listening, and collective learning.

BOTANICAL TRACES

Textile stamping workshop using natural elements with El Tendedero, for ages 14 and above (25 participants).

A workshop that invites participants to connect with nature through textile stamping. Using various natural elements, participants will work on recycled fabrics, experimenting with color and shapes to create beautiful compositions. This activity, which is linked from various angles to the central themes of the exhibition Remedios: Directions to the Old Ways, aims to stimulate the creativity of participants while encouraging reflection on sustainable consumption practices.

We organize two guided tours per month of the exhibition Remedios: Directions to the Old Ways. This activity aims to offer the public the opportunity to delve into the content of the artworks and themes addressed in the exhibition, with the goal of creating a space for reflection on the issues raised.


​PLAYFUL DANCE: SPIRIT IN MOTION

Contemporary dance workshop with Victoria Riva-Palacio for children aged 6 to 12 (25 participants).

An activity designed for children aged 6 to 12 that offers a platform to explore expressive and creative possibilities through bodily movement. The workshop, facilitated through various games, encourages improvisation, self-perception, self-care, as well as the motor, creative, and expressive potential in each participant. Rooted in Gabrielle Roth's 5 rhythms, the workshop explores the interconnectedness of the physical and spiritual realms, embarking on a collective journey from individual self-awareness to a shared experience.


LOSING TIME, LOSING FORMS. SELF-PORTRAIT, PLAY, AND IDENTITY

Clay animation workshop. The first session is designed for students from the Special Education Classroom of CEIP Hernán Ruiz (January 26), and the second will be open to children aged 3 and above (February 10).

Drawing inspiration from the katsina dolls crafted by Native American artist Brad Kahlhamer – small traditional Hopi statuettes associated with healing powers – visual artist Rafael Jiménez invites the youngest participants to delve into the exploration of identity. Through drawing, painting, and clay sculpture, participants will craft a triple self-portrait encompassing the past, present, and future. These images will then be used in the creation of a collaborative experimental animation.


CONTROVERSIES FROM RIOTINTO: HERITAGE, MEMORY, AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Conversation and debate around Nekya: A film river by Regina de Miguel, with students from the Association Antropología en Red (ASANRed) of Granada University and Loyola University in Córdoba. For youth and adults (30 participants).

The Association Antropología en Red (ASANRed) from the University of Granada employs Regina de Miguel's work, Nekya: A film river as a starting point for reflection from an anthropological perspective on pivotal themes explored in the film, such as memory, heritage, the environment, and migrations. These reflections unveil the inherent contradiction within the territory—a space subject to processes of exploitation or preservation.
The discussion and ensuing debate, in collaboration with students from Loyola University, will unfold in the traditional gathering space known as Kupixawa, designed by artist Ernesto Neto. The objective is to foster synergies among diverse student communities in Andalusia and encourage thoughtful engagement among participants.


BETWEEN MEMBRANES: EXPLORING SHARED SENSIBILITIES

Workshop coordinated by visual arts residents of the Antonio Gala Foundation, aimed at high school art students (25 participants).

An activity that engages in dialogue with the exhibition Remedios: Directions to the Old Ways, suggesting a collective approach to artistic practice. Aimed at creatively inclined youth, the workshop explores the potential of reconstructing a sanctuary grounded in interdependence, utilizing textile practice as a metaphor.


TAKING FLIGHT

Workshop on urban birdlife for youth and adults (30 participants)

Workshop dedicated to promoting awareness and care for the birdlife of the city of Córdoba. The activity will commence with a presentation on birdlife, followed by a guided tour led by members from SEO BirdLife Córdoba, along the banks of the Guadalquivir River, offering insights into the diverse bird species inhabiting the area. The event will conclude within the museum, featuring a guided tour of Nohemí Pérez's works, pieces that align with the workshop's themes by advocating for the importance of establishing spaces of reconstruction and pacification for endangered species, including the Andean condor, featured in the piece Cóndores sin vida (Condors without life).


THE MEDICINE OF ART

Creative workshop-laboratory for kids between the ages 4 and 10 (10-50 participants)

A workshop centered on fostering creative expression through fantasy, designed to help children understand the healing power of art and nature. Under the guidance of Margarita Merino, who has been the director of Galería Taller de Córdoba since 2015, participants will be given the chance to craft their own amulet or talisman using organic materials. Following this, in a ceremonial act, they will symbolically return these elements to the earth.
