Join us for a ship-to-shore connection with Elena Alonso Fernández, an artist on board the Falkor (too) from the Schmidt Ocean Institute, on November 21, 2023, live-streamed on Ocean-Archive.org at 6 PM CET.

Alonso works at the intersection of painting and participatory art, exploring the contemporary potential of the portrait through participatory approaches that allow both humans and non-humans to become active co-creators of their representation. In this research, she will collaborate with scientists in the Galápagos National Park to study hydrothermal vents and their interrelationship with other species, including humans. Her goal is to highlight the ecological value of deep-sea ecosystems at a crucial moment in the advent of deep-sea mining.
