On the occasion of the exhibition Sharon Lockhart | Noa Eshkol at Augarten, TBA21 is hosting a series of panel talks, events, workshops and film screenings at the Ambrosi Museum, next to the exhibition space. To respond to the complex yet fascinating body of work of artist Sharon Lockhart and Noa Eshkol - dance composer, textile artist and inventor of the EWMN (Eshkol Wachman Movement Notation System) - we would like to invite you to take part in our extensive public program.

SCHEDULE

November 30, 2 – 4 pm
Open Practice of the Noa Eshkol Chamber Dance Group
Members of the Noa Eshkol Chamber Dance Group demonstrate Eshkol’s dance compositions and the EWMN system. The Open Practice offers the unique opportunity to experience the multifaceted layers involved in the dancers’ training to perfect the execution of Eshkol’s complex polyphonic compositions.

November 30, 4.30 pm
Noa Eshkol’s Wall Carpets
Mooky Dagan-Maimon, Noa Eshkol Foundation for Movement Notation
From the beginning of the Yom Kippur War in 1973 to her death in 2007, Noa Eshkol created more than 500 wall carpets. Conceived to be hung vertically against a wall, all the carpets are made out of found, uncut fabric scraps, collected and brought to her dance studio in Holon over the years. After assembling the scraps on the floor of her studio, Eshkol pinned them together and let her dancers stitch them together.

Tanz und Bewegung im Zeitalter der Kybernetik. Heinz von Foerster und die EWMN
Martina Leeker, Theater- und Medienwissenschaftlerin, Berlin / Lüneburg / theater and media theorist, Berlin / Lüneburg.

How can movement or dance become a language and how can we learn to speak, write or read it? Children will be able to practice movement exercises and learn how to write them in movement notation, creating their own movement and dance segments.
