freq_out 12 [the last edition] is an immersive sound installation comprised of twelve individual audio works, each utilizing a specific frequency range – made on site and amplified to act as a single, generative composition. Occupying Vienna’s spectacular sewer system from the last scenes of The Third Man directed by Carol Reed and Graham Greene with Joseph Cotten, Trevor Howard and Orson Welles (1949) –
freq_out 12 makes use of the cavernous undergrounds, filling its raw concrete shell with a unique sonic experience. The venue will be enriched by twelve different sounds using a 24-channel surround sound system, engulfing the audience in a series of psychoacoustic arrangements.
freq_out was formed in 2003 as a curatorial project by Carl Michael von Hausswolff in 12 live episodes. Its realization at the
5th Marrakech Biennale was co-commissioned by TBA21.

freq_out [the last edition] on April 22 at 9 pm in the main hall of the
Academy of Fine Arts at Schillerplatz. Carl Michael von Hausswolff conducts this spectacular sound performance, with a musical score written by JG Thirwell. The event is hosted by Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary in cooperation with TONSPUR Kunstverein Vienna and the ]a[ Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
