Gabi Dao

Gabi Dao (b. 1991) is an artist from the unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm, Skwxwú7mesh, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh Nations (Vancouver, Canada), currently based in Rotterdam. Working across collage, sculpture, sound, and moving image, Dao explores layered histories, fragmented archives, and sensorial storytelling. Their practice navigates the spaces between grief and joy, alienation and belonging, often assembling found materials and sonic traces into poetic, political constellations. Dao’s work has been exhibited internationally, and in 2021 they were shortlisted for the prestigious Sobey Art Award.
