Anne Duk Hee Jordan

Anne Duk Hee Jordan is a Korean-German interdisciplinary artist renowned for her immersive installations that intertwine art, science, ecology, and technology. Born in Korea in 1978, she was adopted by a German couple at the age of four and raised in a small village in West Germany. Her early life was marked by a deep connection to nature and a fascination with the unseen forces of the world. Before embarking on her artistic journey, Jordan trained as a rescue diver, deep-sea diver, and occupational therapist specializing in kinaesthetics. She also briefly studied electrical engineering and worked as a chef and therapist. At the age of 27, she began her formal art education at the Weißensee Academy of Art in Berlin. Seeking a more experimental approach, she later joined Olafur Eliasson’s Institut für Raumexperimente, where she completed her Master of Fine Arts.

Jordan's artistic practice is characterized by a playful yet profound exploration of transience and transformation. She creates kinetic sculptures, edible landscapes, and multisensory installations that often incorporate living organisms, robotics, and organic materials. Her work delves into themes of migration, identity, and the interconnectedness of all life forms, challenging anthropocentric perspectives and highlighting ecological cycles. Notable projects include "Mein Deutsches Herz / My German Heart" (2009), where she animated a red-painted potato to symbolize her hybrid identity, and "Water Me / Eat Me" (2009), a self-sustained laboratory where potatoes infused with her blood powered a watering system.

Jordan has exhibited internationally, with solo shows such as "I will always weather with you" at The Bass in Miami Beach (2023–24) and "The End Is Where We Start From" at Kunst Haus Wien in Vienna (2024–25). Her work has also been featured in group exhibitions at institutions like the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, and the Gwangju Biennale in South Korea.

Currently, Jordan serves as a professor of digital media art at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design in Germany. Her innovative approach continues to inspire dialogues around ecology, technology, and the role of art in understanding our place within the natural world.
