Nocturnal Walkthroughs: This Map Is Not My Territory
Critical document analysis with Elisa Garrido Moreno
28 November – 19 December 2026
The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza and TBA21 Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary present a new edition of their nocturnal walkthroughs, this time featuring a new type of workshop in connection with Seba Calfuqueo’s exhibition CAUTÍN. Through listening, historical counternarrative, and performative action, the activities invite you to walk through the exhibition and see it with fresh eyes while reflecting on the connections between territory, identity, and memory.
In This Map Is Not My Territory, Elisa Garrido explores the silences and omissions in nineteenth-century travel accounts through selected historical documents. In dialogue with Seba Calfuqueo’s work, these materials become a counternarrative that challenges colonial legacies and welcomes futures where the different life forms and elements that make up the territory are acknowledged as part of the same shared fabric.
Elisa Garrido Moreno has a PhD in Art History and has made the intersections of art and science her specialty. The author of three books and various articles, she has been a visiting researcher in Chile and Peru, working with natural history archives and colonial herbaria. Her work analyzes how art practices shape, conceal, and reveal the biases in scientific discourse. She was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford. She is currently an instructor and researcher at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where she has developed a cross-disciplinary approach uniting nature, image, and culture.
