Camille Henrot

Camille Henrot, born in 1978 in Paris, is a French artist whose multifaceted practice spans film, sculpture, drawing, installation, and painting. Her work delves into the complexities of contemporary life, drawing from diverse sources such as literature, mythology, anthropology, and the digital age. Henrot's approach is characterized by a blend of rigorous research and intuitive exploration, often questioning established systems of knowledge and representation.

Henrot studied film animation at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Her early career included assisting artist Pierre Huyghe and working in advertising and music videos. These experiences influenced her aesthetic sensibilities and approach to storytelling. In 2013, she received the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale for her video installation Grosse Fatigue, which explores the creation of the universe through a montage of images and sounds, reflecting on information overload and the search for meaning in the digital era.

Henrot's exhibitions are known for their immersive and thought-provoking installations. In 2017, she presented Days Are Dogs at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, a carte blanche exhibition that examined the structure of the week and the passage of time through a series of sculptures, drawings, and videos. Her 2023 exhibition Sweet Days of Discipline at Kunstmuseum St. Gallen in Switzerland featured over 30 works exploring themes of care, labor, and the systems that organize daily life.

Throughout her career, Henrot has received numerous accolades, including the Nam June Paik Award (2014) and the Edvard Munch Art Award (2015). She has been honored as an Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France. Her works are held in major collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
