On the occasion of the temporary exhibition Wu Tsang: Of Whales, Educathyssen has organized a dialogued visit, aimed at teachers from kindergarten to high school levels.
This meeting, in which Soledad Gutiérrez, the curator of the exhibition, will be taking part, is an opportunity to plunge into the depths of the sea in order to approach aspects of different temporalities or parallel realities.
Of Whales is an immersive realtime video installation that offers a psychedelic oceanic environment generated from XR ("expanded reality") technologies. This work is based on Herman Melville's classic novel Moby-Dick. The piece is imagined from the whale's perspective and the "motley crew" of sailors aboard the whaler Pequod.
This complex work sets Melville's story in the context of mid-19th century maritime history, the transatlantic birth of modern capitalism, and the social conflicts of the time.
