Diffractive Ensembles: Silence as a Thread for Listening
Workshop at Mediamatic Biotoop, Amsterdam, NL
3 September 2026 | 10:30 – 15:30
Developed within TBA21–Academy’s OCEAN / UNI Activation series Sound Ecologies (led by artist/researcher Robertina Šebjanič), Diffractive Ensembles: Silence as a Thread for Listening by Raquel Ledo Doval, Denisa Půbalová, Pablo Torres Gómez, and Nina Blume is a multisite artistic research process and live radio experiment. This eponymous workshop, organized at Mediamatic Biotoop on September 3, 2026, invites participants to attune to the thresholds between what is audible and what remains structurally silenced within our oceans.
The workshop will unfold through four interconnected cases exploring conditions of silence across microbial, embodied, toxicological, and infrastructural scales. Through guided listening exercises, participants will reflect on how questions of rights, memory, territory, voice, and evidence shift across these scales, and how oceans connect them through their sonic and material layers.
